KMTC signed the agency agreement with Nippon Express as it is designated as local agent for transporting construction materials in Korea - Guam corridor in relation to the project of the US Army relocation from Okinawa, Japan to Guam Island U.S.
The U.S. government and Japanese government have announced they will spend about $10 billion in military construction on Guam over the next six to eight years. As only the U.S.-flag carrier is allowed to carry the US Army construction materials and military supplies, Matson Navigation Company, U.S.-flag carrier, is planning to launch a new service covering Asia(Korea, Japan and Taiwan) to Guam around the end of 2010.
Nippon Express, one of largest logistics companies in Japan, will take a role of General Agent in Asia region for Matson Navigation Company and will transport construction materials to be supplied from Korea through the agency agreement with KMTC Line.
